Are you hitting the road this 4th of July? If you have chosen to drive a long distance this holiday, you’re going to need some entertainment. Yes, you can always throw in electronics, movies, and headphones, but if you really want to engage your family, consider playing some of these road trip games.
- 21 Questions – Guess what a person is thinking of in 21 questions
Someone thinks of something, then the other passengers begin by asking questions. You can't repeat a question that has been asked and you only have 21 questions to ask. Whoever guesses it right gets to start the next round. If no one answers correctly, the “idea guy” is the winner.
- Did You Hear That? - Fact or fiction game of news & current events
You are trying to fool your opponent. Start by asking, "Did you hear that _______ happened?" Your opponent can either say, "That didn't happen," or, "Tell me more." If they correctly guess that it didn't happen, the opponent gets two points. If they incorrectly guess that it didn't happen, you steal one point and gain two additional. If they ask you, "Tell me more," points double at the end of the statement.
- The Singing Game - Connect songs through their lyrics in this fun sing-a-long
One person sings a song using a lyric from a song, the next person has to connect it with another song. It continues on until somebody messes up the lyrics or is stumped.
- The Waving Game – Spread some joy by waving at your fellow travelers
One person starts and waves to every car or person they pass. If a wave is received in return it is counted and that person keeps going. When there is no return wave it is another person's turn.
- While You Were Sleeping - Creative storytime once someone falls asleep
First, a passenger must fall asleep. After five minutes of slumber, the awake passengers begin creating a story. Each person takes turns adding to the story and once the passenger wakes up, you have to get them to believe the story. If somebody breaks character, they lose a point; if somebody goes off script, you ask, "Are you sure?" and then that person is silenced and loses two points; if you successfully fool the person, each storyteller wins three points. The one with the most points at the destination wins.
So, as you’re traveling the highways and byways this Independence Day, try these games to make it the best holiday road trip ever!
